Last Updated: December 30, 2025

1. Introduction

Distillery University LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the SommScope mobile application (the “App”). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.

SommScope is a B2B SaaS platform designed for professional wine trade tasting analysis. By using our App, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register for the App, participate in tasting events, or otherwise contact us.

A. Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Full Name

  • Email Address

  • User Role (e.g., Attendee, Distributor, or Admin)

  • Authentication Data:

    • If you use Sign in with Apple, we collect your Apple ID and email (or private relay email).

    • If you use Google Sign-In, we collect your Google ID and email address.

    • If you sign up via email/password, we store a securely hashed version of your password.

B. Tasting & Event Data

As part of the App’s core functionality, we collect data related to your professional activities:

  • Wine Scores (1-5 scale)

  • Flavor Tags and structural assessments (e.g., sweetness, acidity, tannin, body)

  • Written Tasting Notes

  • Event Participation History (which events you joined)

C. Voice & Audio Data

  • Voice Recordings: We collect audio data solely when you use the microphone feature to dictate tasting notes.

  • Transcribed Text: We convert your voice recordings into text notes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We process your information for purposes based on legitimate business interests, the fulfillment of our contract with you, and compliance with our legal obligations.

  • To Provide Services: To facilitate account creation, authentication, and the recording of tasting notes.

  • To Generate Reports: To compile “Buyer’s Reports” and analytics for the specific wine distributors whose events you attend.

  • To Improve AI Features: To transcribe voice notes into text using artificial intelligence.

  • To Communicate: To send you copies of your tasting reports or administrative information.

4. Voice Data and AI Processing

We use Google Gemini AI to provide voice-to-text transcription services.

  • Temporary Processing: Audio recordings are captured temporarily for the specific purpose of transcription. We do not permanently store raw audio files after the transcription is complete.

  • Third-Party Processing: Audio data is transmitted securely to Google’s AI services for processing. Google handles this data in accordance with their privacy standards for API usage.

5. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share your data only in the following categories:

A. With Event Hosts (Distributors)

Since SommScope is a B2B trade tool, your tasting data is shared with the Distributor hosting the event you attend. This includes your name, your scores, and your specific notes for the wines at that event. This allows distributors to analyze event performance and follow up with professional buyers.

B. With Service Providers

We share data with third-party vendors who perform services for us:

  • Neon (via Replit): For secure cloud database hosting.

  • Google Gemini: For AI voice transcription.

  • Apple & Google: For authentication services.

6. Data Storage and Security

  • Storage: Data is securely stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Neon infrastructure (managed via Replit).

  • Security: We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process.

  • Voice Data: As noted above, raw audio recordings are not permanently retained in our database.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we collect about you.

  • Request correction or deletion of your personal information.

  • Withdraw consent for data processing (e.g., revoking microphone access in your device settings).

To exercise these rights, please contact us at the information below.

8. Third-Party Logins

If you choose to register or log in to our services using a social media account (like Apple or Google), we may have access to certain information about you.
